The Great Maithil poet Vidyapati gives an account of Mithila in his Sanskrit book Bhoo-parikramanam as Janakdeshvivaranam. He describes that the Janakdesh is spread in 22 Yojanas i.e. 281 KM and there are 1000 villages. He locates that the palace of king Janak was situated at Dijagal village on the bank of river Yamuna (now it known as jamunia Dhar) 7 kos i.e. 21 k.m. away in the south from Janakapur. In the south of Dijagal at the distance of half yojan i.e. 6 k.m. there is a Girija village where the old temple is erected between to ponds, which is called Bhairabsthan. At this place there is also the Sita-mandap, where Lord Ram and Sita got married. There is also a pond named Sitakund and in the south of that pond at the distance of 9 k.m. the Chandisthan is situated. The great village Ahari nearby the Gotamkund is situated in the south of the village Girija at the distance of 15 k.m. These places are traced in Sitamarhi district of Bihar. The original text by Vidyapati is as follows:
